Norman Shark to move U.S. headquarters to the region

Network security software firm Norman Shark, which is based in Norway, said it is bringing its U.S. headquarters office to San Diego.
The company already has a 5,000-square-foot facility in the city with 12 employees. It aims to boost that number to 30 employees in the next six months as its U.S. headquarters site, said company spokesman Tim Johnson.
Norman Shark has another U.S. location in Fairfax, VA., that employs six workers. It expects to keep that location so it has offices on both coasts.
“The U.S. market represents the largest opportunity for Norman Shark in its current worldwide business,” said North American General Manager Darin Andersen. “We not only want to provide more sales and marketing focus here but product management to meet the unique demands here.”
Andersen and Einar Oftedal, vice president of emerging technologies, will be relocating to San Diego.
The region is home to a small cluster of Web and network security software companies today, led by Websense and ESET.
Norman Shark focuses on anti-malware solutions, network protection, threat detection and analysis and security software for large organizations and government agencies.
“San Diego is a vibrant, expanding home for many national businesses,” Andersen said. “We felt the business climate and the support of business development here were the perfect combination for a rapidly growing company like ours.”
The company’s best-known products are Norman Shark SandBox, Norman Shark Exploit Detection and Norman Shark DNA Matching. Its anti-malware software protects corporate networks and applications, remote employees, and branch offices. Its malware analyzers automate the process of analyzing suspicious files.
